“That Giving Spirit”
1 Corinthians 12:1-11; John 2:1-11

This is one of those weeks where I wonder where to start. Do I talk about what I had originally planned to talk about, or do I address some obvious topics that have arisen in the last week.

Originally, I intended to talk about spiritual gifts based on our reading from 1 Corinthians. It’s a topic I love to talk about as I’ve led a number of workshops on spiritual gifts.

A New Beginning: A New Team
Mark 9:38-50

When I arrived home on Tuesday, it was less than an hour later I got a call informing me my grandmother had passed away. We planning for a second trip to the mainland, getting home last night.

Somewhere in there I got some work done. We have a bulletin this morning, I put together a sermon. It’s been a very busy week to be sure, and it’s good to be back here with you. Just in time for another gospel reading full of great stuff to look at. (more…)

out of the mouth of a child

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

As I was checking the ol’ blog for comments (spam of course), my daughter looked at the screen, noticed the cross and said “That’s almost like the cross Jesus used to die on!”

All I could do to respond was say “Yup, almost!”

Sturgeon UC Anniversary Sermon, Sept. 30-07

Monday, October 1st, 2007

I had the honour of being asked to preach at Sturgeon United Church’s 121st anniversary service this past weekend.

“Tenders of the Light”
Sturgeon Anniversary Service, Sept.30, 2007
Genesis 1:1-5, John 1:1-13

121 years, and still going. This congregation began in 1886. Think of the history since then. In 1886, Geronimo was captured, ending the last US-native american conflict. Also in 1886, Coca-Cola was invented, it cost 5 cents a glass. (more…)
